F31 NRSA application information

July 22, 2011

For those of you getting ready to prepare a F31 application, here are some helpful hints on preparing the budget:

-Tuition and fees for 2011-2012 should be $12,733.50 (keep in mind that this is NOT including health insurance since NIH covers health insurance under the institutional allowance).  If you are requesting multiple years of funding, apply a 14% increase to each year after year 1.  Do not apply this 14% increase to stipend or institutional allowance; those are fixed amounts!

-Stipend and institutional allowance is a set amount determined by NIH.  You can find those amounts at http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-11-067.html.
Stipend = $21,600
Institutional allowance = $4,200

OGS Deadline is: August 1, 2011 to submit final proposal for review and completed NIH Assurance form.

Agency Deadline is: August 8, 2011

For each year of funding you are requesting, please add tuition/fees (minus health insurance), stipend, and institutional allowance together for the total amount.

Again, please list Tanya Reese as “Person to be contacted on matters involving this application”, but list the graduate advisor email address (Graduate Fellowship Advisor).

Thanks –

Hello,

For those of you thinking of applying a NRSA, I’ve posted instructions on how to fill out the SF424 on the OGS website.   Also, here is a link to the Individual Fellowship Application Guide SF424 (R&R)- Adobe Forms version B. Please read it carefully, as the online system is very particular and needs to be filled out exactly as required.

A few last notes:

  • Please remember that the Office of Graduate Studies will still need the NIH Assurance form, signed by you and your advisor.
  • We will need your application at least TWO weeks, but no less than five days, prior to the deadline (but the earlier, the better!).

Best of luck, and email the Graduate Advisor (Graduate Fellowship Advisor) if you have any questions.  Happy writing!
