December 20, 2011

Yesterday was our internal deadline for TRDRP fellowship applications. I’ve only received one application for this program so far. If you think you’re submitting an application for this program, but you haven’t received an email from me regarding your application, please email me (gradadvisor AT ucsd DOT edu) immediately to get things straightened out.
Thanks!

I gave incorrect instructions for the NASA fellowships

December 20, 2011

It turns out that applications for the NASA fellowships need to go through Ms. Wilma Orantes (worantes AT ucsd DOT edu) in OCGA. Our office has an NSPIRES account, but we aren’t able to view student applications with it. I apologize for the error.

Rotary Peace Fellowships to get a master’s or professional certificate

December 20, 2011

I’ve been looking into the Rotary fellowship options, and this is an email I just received:

“Thank you for your interest in Rotary Peace Fellowships. I will be sending specific information to clubs in our Rotary District in early January. Information about the Fellowships is available on the Rotary International site: http://www.rotary.org/EN/STUDENTSANDYOUTH/EDUCATIONALPROGRAMS/ROTARYCENTERSFORINTERNATIONALSTUDIES/Pages/ridefault.aspx. Here you will find information about Rotary’s International Peace Centers and the program for selecting Fellows to attend the Master’s Degree program at one of these centers. (There is also a three-month Professional Development Certificate program at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. A comprehensive brochure on the program is online as is the 2012 Application and other supportive material.

Eligibility criteria for Fellowships includes:
A strong commitment to international understanding and peace demonstrated through professional and academic achievements and personal and community service activitie
A bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience as a minimum, with strong academic achievement
A minimum of three years’ combined paid or unpaid full-rime relevant work experience for the master’s degree. Five years’ relevant work experience with current full-time employment in a mid- to upper-level position for the professional development certificate.
Proficiency in a second language for the master’s degree or in English for the professional development certificate.
Strong leadership skills.

Rotary discourages applying immediately after obtaining an undergraduate degree, preferring a few years background of relevant work experience.

I expect a deadline of mid-March for applications to be submitted to a local Rotary Club, prepared to review and endorse applicants prior to forwarding to the District for interviews. I am available to assist and answer questions.

For the right person, these Fellowships are extremely rewarding. The community of Peace Fellow graduates is enthusiastic and highly committed to peace and conflict resolution programs around the world. They are strong advocates for the program and make themselves available to prospective applicants. So please let me know of any individuals who you might want to bring forward.”
