UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

The UC President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program – Advancing Excellence Through Faculty Diversity – “offers postdoctoral research fellowships, faculty mentoring, and eligibility for a hiring incentive to outstanding scholars in all fields whose research, teaching, and service will contribute to diversity and equal opportunity at the University of California.” (You don’t have to be a member of an underrepresented minority to apply.)
The Fellowship pays $40-$45k for one year plus money for research expenses and also includes health insurance.

Less than Two Weeks to Internal Fulbright Deadline

August 30, 2011

The internal UCSD deadline to apply for the Fulbright Program for US Students is September 12, which is less than two weeks away.
If you are planning to apply for the Fulbright program, please begin your application in the Embark system today and indicate the country you will be applying to and your field of study (or ETA, if applicable). Please also email me at gradadvisor AT ucsd DOT edu with a brief summary of your project proposal.
Please note that all components of your application, including letters of reference and your letter of affiliation, are due by the internal deadline of September 12.

California Breast Cancer Research Program

Those of you doing research on breast cancer should look into the California Breast Cancer Research Program (CBCRP), which has various funding opportunities to conduct research on breast cancer and to organize conferences related to that subject. Students are eligible for these awards.

DoD SMART Scholarships for STEM Students

The Department of Defense offers SMART (Science, Mathematics, & Research for Transformation) Scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. Recipients are awarded tuition and fees, health insurance, and a stipend of $25,000-$41,000 per year. You also get a summer internship, and upon graduation, you will be placed in a civilian job with the DoD. Apply here.

Update Regarding Boren Fellowships

Earlier I posted an announcement of the Boren Fellowships, which fund linguistic and cultural immersion in areas critical to US national security. I’ve just learned who our campus contacts for these opportunities are.
